I'm an assistant professor of political science at University at Buffalo, SUNY. Prior to joining the faculty at UB, I taught at Miami University, Ohio. I received my M.A. and Ph.D. in political science the University of Iowa, my J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law, and my B.A. in government from Smith College. I spent several years prior to and during law school working in various public and private sectors, including the United States Attorney's Office in New York City and Grand Rapids.
My research focuses primarily on American political institutions and decision making, with an emphasis on judicial politics, empirical legal studies, and state politics. I broadly explore the role of the judiciary in the development of jurisprudence and how laws and policies affect marginalized groups. I teach courses on constitutional law, judicial politics, and American politics.
The American Political Science Association awarded my doctoral dissertation the 2018 Edward S. Corwin prize for best dissertation in public law. In 2023, I received the APSA Law & Courts Section Service Award, along with Alyx Mark and Monica Lineberger, for our efforts to support non-tenured women and non-binary scholars.
